Motor Oil Myth: Black Motor Oil Needs to Be Changed

There are more motor oil myths out there now than ever before. Some are caused by recent changes in automotive technologies, and some have endured for decades.

One common myth is that black motor oil means the oil needs to be changed. It's true that a new car's oil will remain amber in color for years if it's oil is changed often enough. However, black motor oil is not an indication that the oil has gone bad. When it turns a darker color, it means the motor oil is doing its job of cleaning the corrosion and debris that builds up as an engine ages. This is why motor oil is darker in older engines.

At Watson Quality Ford Inc., our service technicians can help you with any questions about your vehicle's motor oil you might have. Bring it to our service center in Jackson, MS for an inspection or its next oil change.
